The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) awards and recognition program is designed to recognize IEEE WIE members and Affinity Groups who have made an outstanding contribution to IEEE WIE, their  community, and the engineering community, through their dedication and involvement in projects or activities directed toward fulfilling the IEEE WIE goals and objectives.

IEEE Frances B. Hugle Scholarship Application

This award recognizes exceptional documented impact of the nominee’s activities related to fulfilling one or more of WIE‘s goals and objectives and recognizes WIE members who have increased public awareness of women’s role in the engineering profession and in IEEE WIE. In your nomination and evaluation, emphasis should be made on answering the following question: what makes this member stand apart or distinguishes her from her peers?
  • The IEEE Frances B. Hugle Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Frances B. Hugle, her many significant engineering accomplishments, and to help provide the resources for female engineers to follow in her footsteps. Annually, the scholarship will be presented to one female student who has completed two years of undergraduate study in an engineering curriculum at an ABET-accredited university or college within the United States.

    Eligibility

    • A female IEEE Student Member.
    • A full-time student who has completed two (2) years of undergraduate study in an engineering curriculum at an ABET-accredited university or college within the United States.
    • A full-time student who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate engineering curriculum at an ABET-accredited university or college within the United States.
    • Applicant may apply multiple times, but can only be awarded the scholarship one time.

  • Letters of Recommendation

  • Letter of recommendation from an academic reference, such as a Professor or Department Chair.

  • Letter of Recommendation from a personal reference who knows the applicant well and can comment on her character.

  • Essays

  • 1,000 words on why the applicant wants to go into the engineering profession.

  • 500 words on why the applicant should receive the scholarship.

  • Please submit evidence of current full-time enrollment, completion of two years of undergraduate study, and at least a 3.7 Grade Point Average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

  • "I certify that I am a full-time, female student, and I have completed two years of undergraduate study at an accredited university or college within the United States." Please enter your initials below.
